Repair Balm

Repair balms are rich leave-on products intended to reduce moisture loss and improve the feel of dry, rough or uncomfortable skin. Their thicker textures may contain occlusive and emollient ingredients such as petrolatum, dimethicone, waxes, ceramides, shea butter or panthenol and are often used on targeted areas. Balms usually feel heavier than lotions and creams, making them practical for very dry patches or evening use. Smooth a small amount over clean skin rather than rubbing aggressively, and avoid applying ordinary cosmetic balms to infected, deeply broken or weeping skin unless the label specifically allows it. Emollients form a protective film that helps retain moisture but do not replace treatment for an underlying skin condition.
